Warton Old Rectory is a curious, slightly sinister, ruin tucked away behind a private house opposite the church in (one of) the Lancashire villages of Warton. It is actually quite rare, a stone house dating from the 14th century with a great hall. It was once home to the wealthy and powerful rectors of Warton, who also used the building as a court. Abandoned and in ruins by 1721, part of it was occupied as a cottage into the 20th century.

Warton has another claim to fame – it was home to the ancestors of George Washington, 1st President of the United States of America.  Just imagine if George Washington had been Lancastrian.
