The Bronte Parsonage Museum in Haworth is a focal point for all Bronte fans. The Bronte family moved to Haworth in 1820, when Patrick Bronte was appointed ‘perpetual curate’ of the parish church. They lived in the Parsonage, where the three immensely talented sisters – Charlotte, Emily and Anne – wrote some of the finest literature in the English language. Though it may possibly overwhelm those who do not actually worship the Brontes, the Parsonage Museum is fascinating. It is run by the Bronte Society and contains the largest Bronte collection in the world.

The schoolroom, built by Patrick and where all the girls taught, is opposite. Walk through the opening in the garden into the adjacent, crowded and atmospheric, churchyard, and visit the church. Explore the historic village of Haworth, with its period shops and tempting pubs. If you’re feeling really adventurous, walk up onto Haworth Moor behind the Parsonage.
