George Mottershead (1894-1978), founder of Chester Zoo in 1931, had a childhood dream of creating a zoo without bars. He did a good job with Chester, which (pre-pandemic) was Britain’s most visited zoo with some 2 million visitors every year. Chester Zoo also has impressive conservation credentials, covers 128 acres, holds in excess of 20,000 animals and employs more than 1,000 people. Although ideal for a family day out, like many other zoos, Chester Zoo is relatively expensive to visit. Check out its website and ABAB’s review below.
