All Saints’ Earls Barton is one of several Northamptonshire churches with Saxon roots. It is particularly renowned for its unique tower, which dates from the 10th century and, despite other notable Norman and later features (including a wonderful rood screen), overshadows the rest of the church. Immediately to the north of the church is what looks very much like a motte – and it probably is.
