Levens Deer Park is part of the 9,500 acre Levens Park estate and is accessible via public footpaths. Opposite the current entrance to Levens Hall is the original carriage drive to the Hall between an avenue of oaks. There is an easy circular walk of about 3 miles, partly along the River Kent, through lush parkland, landscaped some three centuries ago. You share your walk with a herd of black fallow deer and a herd of rare Bagot goats. The goats have distinctive white coats, black faces and large curved horns, and are believed to be Britain’s oldest documented breed of goat. It’s a lovely part of the world, referred to in an 18th century guidebook as “The sweetest spot that fancy can imagine.”
