Another Place is an art installation on Crosby Beach. It consists of 100 cast-iron life-size figures spread along the foreshore and out to sea, all gazing at the horizon. The figures are based on the body of their sculptor, Antony Gormley, who allegedly said that Another Place harnesses the ebb and flow of the tide to explore man’s relationship with nature. This writer found them curiously moving, as though they were searching expectantly for something that has not arrived yet.

Visitors are also warned not to attempt to approach the farthest figures – quite seriously, because they bite, but because of the dangers of sinking mud and swift changing tides.
