What is it –  Deserted settlement, Roman site, Ruin

When is it from – Roman

Aldborough Roman Town lies largely under the charming village of Aldborough (old borough). It was Isurium Brigantum, a significant Roman trading town and regional administrative centre between the 2nd and 5th centuries AD. Some believe it replaced a pre-Roman Brigantean centre at nearby Stanwick Camp. Little of the Aldborough Roman town is visible – small sections of town wall plus a couple of very good mosaics. There’s a small, but excellent, museum and it’s a very pleasant and interesting stroll round the site, but people expecting to see a great deal might be disappointed.
