St ANDREWS, Dent

The dedication to St Andrew is thought to indicate a Scottish influence in what was once a border area. The church dates from the 12th century and has some fine pillars, 18th century box pews and stained glass. The tower is 18th century. There is a marble memorial to Adam Sedgwick, the geologist, who was born in the village. And the so-called Vampire of Dent is buried just outside the porch...
