Situated in a lovely Georgian building, this is a really excellent local museum, which has a surprisingly large number of items in its collection and displays many of them in life-size exhibits. It covers local history from prehistoric times. There are some fascinating Roman items, a small feature about the mixture of races that settled in this part of Britain and exhibits of local trade and industry. The museum additionally houses the regimental museum of the King's Own Royal Regiment (Lancaster), which is also very good.
When last looked at, the website for Lancaster City Museum is absolutely awful; the local authority should be ashamed of itself. And an enquiry was ignored - hopeless!
