CAEDMON’S CROSS

A memorial erected in 1898 to England's first known poet, the Anglo-Saxon Caedmon. He has a nice story. The memorial is in the churchyard of St Mary's church - it's the first thing you see at the top of the 199 steps leading up from the town.
