Sulgrave Manor was built by Lawrence Washington, ancestor of George, the First President of the United States. The house dates from the mid 16th century and is built of local limestone. It has a kitchen, buttery, a Great Hall and above a Great Chamber with two smaller private chambers. Lawrence Washington, a Northampton wool-trader who married well, was George Washington's great-great-great-great-great grandfather.
Note - the postal address for this property is Oxfordshire, but it is actually in Northamptonshire.
